The Parisian club is reportedly close to keeping Lionel Messi for another one to two seasons. "At the moment, we are in discussions with Messi for his extension. I would like to keep him in this project, I can’t hide it," said Sports Director Luis Campos. "We are talking at the moment to achieve this goal, and continue to have him with us."
French media reports that PSG has proposed a one-year contract with a 12-month extension option to Messi. The Argentine star's income will not be reduced, even as he turns 36 this summer. He currently earns a salary of 45 million euros per season before taxes.
Messi's father and the agent were convinced by the proposal from Paris Saint-Germain. Messi himself is comfortable at PSG and wants to continue playing at a high level in Europe with the aim of winning the Champions League.
The current contract of Paris Saint-Germain's star player, Messi, will expire on June 30, 2023. The PSG leadership has been planning to retain Messi since the beginning of this season. The club's Qatari owners highly value Messi and aim to extend his contract as long as possible.
After winning the 2022 World Cup, the PSG leadership is even more determined to keep the former Barca star. Previously, the 1987-born player had talked about the possibility of returning to Barca or moving to the Major League Soccer (MLS) for a new experience.
Currently, Messi continues to shine, helping PSG win against Toulouse in Round 22 of Ligue 1. This is a game in which both Mbappe and Neymar were absent due to injury. Sharing with the media, Coach Christophe Galtier did not hide the fact of granting Messi the special privilege of not participating in defense, just like in the Argentine national team.
