Man City is at risk of being deducted points or even expelled from the Premier League following allegations of over 100 financial rule violations in 9 years.
After a 4-year long investigation, the Premier League organizing committee has accused Man City of violating financial regulations over 100 times in the 9 years between 2009 and 2018. The allegations relate to financial information on revenue, detailed profit information for coaches and players, UEFA regulations, etc.
The investigation is now being handed over to an independent panel, before going to court. Man City is also facing an accusation of non-cooperation with the investigation, which began in December 2018.
If found guilty, Man City faces a range of penalties, including being deducted points or even being expelled from the Premier League. However, the new investigation may take several years to complete.
Man City has not yet made any comments but, according to the Daily Mail, the club is ready to defend itself strongly. In the 9 years in question, Man City has won 3 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, and 3 League Cups.
Previously, the Manchester club has denied any financial rule violations after the German newspaper Der Spiegel published the Football Leaks documents revealing Man City's serious violations.
In February 2020, Manchester City was fined 25 million euros by the European Football Association (UEFA) and banned from participating in the Champions League for violating Financial Fair Play regulations. However, they successfully appealed and in the end, the citizens only had to pay a fine of 9 million euros and were still able to play in the Champions League.
Additionally, it should be noted that last month, Juventus had 15 points deducted due to financial violations related to transfers. As a result, Man City may not be completely "safe" after being poked by the Premier League organizing committee.
Currently, Man City is ranked second in the Premier League standings with 45 points, 5 points behind the leaders Arsenal and having played more games.
