PSG's win against Lille came at a heavy cost when forward Neymar suffered an ankle injury and is likely to miss the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 match against Bayern Munich.
Paris Saint Germain (PSG) had an incomplete victory as forward Neymar suffered a severe injury and had to leave the field on crutches in the early second half of the match against Lille in the 24th round of Ligue 1.
The Brazilian striker was involved in a dispute with Benjamin Andre which resulted in him landing awkwardly and twisting his ankle. At first, Neymar limped off the field but then had to rely on the medical staff for support on crutches. The 33-year-old even shed tears upon learning of his severe injury following the collision.
"Neymar has sprained his ankle. We will see how serious it is but we don't know yet. He is undergoing tests at the moment," coach Christophe Galtier said after the match.
"I hope 'Ney' is going to come back quickly because he is an important player for us," Mbappe told Amazon Prime.
Neymar's injury is a huge loss for PSG as the Parisian club prepares for an important second-leg match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 next week. Neymar is a key player in the team of coach Galtier, having scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.
Despite Neymar's injury, PSG secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over Lille, with Messi scoring an important goal in stoppage time at 90+3 minutes. Mbappe had earlier scored a brace and Neymar added a goal for PSG, but Lille equalized twice and even took a 3-2 lead after Bamba's goal in the 69th minute.
The win over Lille helped PSG solidify their lead at the top of the table with 57 points after 24 rounds, temporarily ahead of second-placed Marseille by 8 points on the Ligue 1 standings.
