Superstar Lionel Messi has surpassed Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe to win the FIFA Best Men's Player award for 2022.
As many predicted, Messi has won the FIFA Best Men's Player award for 2022 after beating two tough opponents Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe. This is the second time in his career that El Pulga has won this award, the first being in 2019. As a result, the PSG player has equaled the record of C. Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski (both winning it twice).
Messi has just had a successful year of competition. The most notable achievement was helping the Argentine team win the World Cup 2022. Personally, Messi scored 7 goals in that tournament and won the award for Best Player of the tournament.
To be fair, Mbappe and Benzema both deserve the award. Mbappe also performed exceptionally well playing for PSG and the French national team. In the World Cup 2022, the French team also made it to the final but accepted second place after losing to Argentina on penalties. This caused Mbappe to miss out on the award.
Meanwhile, Benzema helped Real Madrid win the Champions League. It is regrettable that he did not participate in the World Cup 2022 due to injury.
In the category of Best Men's Goalkeeper, it is not surprising that Emiliano Martinez won. This goalkeeper has shown outstanding form in helping the Argentine team win the World Cup 2022. Similarly, Lionel Scaloni won the Best Men's Coach award, beating two heavyweights Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola.
The Best Women's Player award went to Alexia Putellas of Barcelona and the Spanish national team. Coach Sarina Wiegman won the Best Women's Coach award for her achievement in helping the English women's team win the European Championship.
Notably, the Best Goal award of the year was given to disabled player Marcin Oleksy for his beautiful acrobatic goal in the match between Warta Poznan and Stal Rzeszow.
The Fair Play award of the year went to defender Luka Lochoshvili of Wolfsberger for saving the life of Georg Teigl of Austria Wien in a match in the Austrian national championship.
