Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) had an emotional match as they won a dramatic victory 4-3 against Lille. Lionel Messi shone with a superb free-kick goal in the 95th minute of extra time.
Before the 24th round of Ligue 1, PSG disappointed as they had lost three consecutive games on all fronts. That's why coach Christophe Galtier was determined to win by fielding the star trio of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe from the start.
The advantage of playing at home and the strongest squad in hand helped Parc des Princes attack their opponent from the beginning of the match. However, Lille showed why they are in 6th position in the standings by launching a dangerous counter-attack, and only the exceptional performance of goalkeeper Donnarumma prevented PSG from conceding a goal.
In the 11th minute, Paris Saint-Germain quickly found the opening goal with the outstanding performance of Mbappe. The French striker escaped from the two defenders marking him within the penalty area and shot the ball into the net.
The goal made PSG's performance easier. Just six minutes later, PSG's players had a header pass like in a training session, allowing Neymar to easily put the ball into the empty net, doubling the lead.
Trailing by two goals, Lille still attacked relentlessly, and they found a goal to shorten the score in the 24th minute. Andre Gomes crossed the ball into the penalty area, and Diakite jumped up and headed the ball strongly into the net, defeating goalkeeper Donnarumma. In the remaining minutes of the first half, neither team scored any more goals.
At the beginning of the second half, PSG suffered a major loss when Neymar suffered a serious injury and could not continue to play. In the 56th minute, Lille were awarded a penalty after Marco Verratti pulled the shirt of the opposing player. On the penalty spot, David deceived goalkeeper Donnarumma to bring the match back to the starting line.
In the 69th minute, the away team even took the lead 3-2 thanks to Bamba's goal. From a long pass from his teammate in the midfield, the French striker escaped the offside trap, sprinted down, and shot powerfully, giving goalkeeper Donnarumma no chance to save.
The tension rose to a climax in the last minutes. In the 87th minute, Mbappe faked and shot within the penalty area, leveling the score 3-3 for PSG. Just when the two teams thought they had to share points, in the 5th minute of injury time, Messi launched a world-class free-kick to secure a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind victory for PSG.
With this result, PSG ended their three-game losing streak. The team from the capital of France consolidated their top spot in the Ligue 1 table with 57 points after 24 matches.
