Leeds United have fired Jesse Marsch as head coach after just under a year in charge. The American becomes the seventh coach to lose his job in the 2022/23 Premier League season. Leeds' decision was made after a 0-1 loss to Nottingham Forest in the 22nd round.
The club has not won in over three months and has only won four games in the Premier League this season. Marsch took over at Leeds in late February 2022, when the club was 16th in the league table and facing the threat of relegation. He successfully kept the club in the league and ended the previous season 17th.
However, this season Leeds has found themselves in a battle to avoid relegation, currently sitting 17th in the league table, level on points but behind 18th-placed Everton on goal difference and just three points ahead of 19th-placed Southampton.
Marsch's departure was confirmed in a club statement, along with Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack, and Pierre Barrieu leaving the coaching staff. Leeds face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday, before hosting United at Elland Road on Sunday.
"Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.
"Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club. We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.
"The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days."
March became the 7th Premier League coach to lose his job in the 2022/23 season, following Scott Parker (Nottingham), Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea), Bruno Lage (Wolves), Steven Gerrard (Aston Villa), Ralph Hasenhuttl (Southampton), and Frank Lampard (Everton).
