Jorginho leaves Chelsea, joins Arsenal

The best player in Europe in 2020 has decided to leave Chelsea and join Arsenal on a contract worth 12 million pounds until June 2024.

The 31-year-old Chelsea midfielder has decided to leave the club as he feels his future at Stamford Bridge is no longer guaranteed. Italy did not participate in the 2022 World Cup, but one of their pillars, Jorginho, had to frequently warm the bench since the national leagues returned.

Chelsea's poor performance in the English Premier League is also a reason that key players feel uncertain, especially since owner Todd Boehly was actively shopping during the winter transfer window. Jorginho's contract with Chelsea will end in the summer of 2023 and the Brazilian star has to make a quick decision about his future as a number of stars follow each other to Stamford Bridge, including Enzo Fernandez, who recently won the title of 'Best Young Player of the World Cup.

Arsenal was originally determined to sign Moises Caicedo, but Brighton was not satisfied with the £70 million offer made by the Gunners. The lack of depth in Arsenal's midfield became more apparent, especially after Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny both suffered injuries. Jorginho emerged as a target just a day before the transfer window closed, and Chelsea quickly agreed to Arsenal's request. With both midfield stars set to become free agents in June, Chelsea decided to part ways with Jorginho and continued negotiations with N'Golo Kante.

Jorginho joins Arsenal and will wear the number 20 jersey. He is expected to become a new cornerstone for the club's young squad under manager Mikel Arteta, due to his vast experience in England and Europe.

"Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience." Mikel Arteta said.

Jorginho joined Chelsea in 2018 from Napoli with a contract worth 50 million pounds. He has made 213 appearances, scored 29 goals, and created 9 assists. During his time at The Blues, he won a Champions League title, a Europa League title, a UEFA Super Cup, and a World Cup Club title.

At the international level, Jorginho was a key player in Italy's Euro 2020 championship win and was named the "UEFA Men's Player of the Year" a few months later. Experts in England believe that Jorginho may not fit in well with Arsenal's fast-paced and explosive style, but his experience and success will bring something new to the "Gunners", especially as the team is aiming for its first Premier League championship title since 2004.
