United is searching for a new striker after deciding to terminate the contract with Cristiano Ronaldo during the World Cup 2022. Red Devils are now targeting Weghorst, who is currently playing for Besiktas from Burnley. Recently, Besiktas has insisted that the striker will stay with them until the end of the season, but United is not giving up.

The latest, according to The Guardian, Manchester United has reached an agreement to loan Wout Weghorst from Besiktas. Specifically, the English team has agreed to pay Besiktas around 3 million euros (2.7 million pounds) to terminate the loan contract with Burnley.

According to the same source, Besiktas has basically agreed to United's request, but they will only let Weghorst to England if they find a replacement. The 30-year-old player was signed by Burnley for 12 million pounds from Wolfsburg in January last year, but he only scored 2 goals after 20 appearances in the Premier League before joining Besiktas on loan last summer.

Man Utd coach Erik Ten Hag is hoping to debut Weghorst in the upcoming Manchester derby on January 14th. This is a very important game for Man Utd as if they win against Man City at Old Trafford, the "Red Devils" will shorten the gap with Guardiola's team to just one point.

Weghorst has played better during his time in Turkey, scoring 8 goals after 16 games for Besiktas. At the World Cup in Qatar, Weghorst had 4 appearances as a substitute and scored 2 late goals for the Netherlands against Argentina, forcing the quarterfinal to go into extra time. However, the Netherlands then lost the match on penalties.

The 30-year-old star has scored 9 goals and made 4 assists in 18 appearances for Besiktas in the Turkish league.
