French forward Antoine Griezmann is said to be feeling hurt and considering leaving the national team after being treated disrespectfully by coach Didier Deschamps.
According to Le Figaro on March 21st, "Griezmann is upset and hurt when Deschamps overlooks him and gives the captain's armband to Mbappe." "Griezmann is considering his future with the French team."
L'Équipe revealed on March 20th that Deschamps had chosen forward Kylian Mbappe to be the captain of the French national team, replacing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris who retired from the French team after the 2022 World Cup. Lloris himself had previously recommended Mbappe as his successor. The official decision may be announced by Deschamps on Thursday, March 23rd. On March 20th, Deschamps emphasized that his choice for the captaincy was for the benefit of the entire team.
During this Euro 2024 qualifying round, only Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann have more experience with the French team than Mbappe. Griezmann has played 117 games for France, scoring 42 goals, and has captained the team once. Mbappe has played 66 games for the national team, scoring 36 goals, including a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final. Both Griezmann and Mbappe played a significant role in France's 2018 World Cup victory and the team's run to the 2022 World Cup final.

France will begin their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign by facing the Netherlands on Friday, March 24th. Three days later, Griezmann and his teammates will take on Ireland. Group B of France also includes two other teams, Greece and Gibraltar.
